Join Groundwork South, Southern Housing and Hastings Museum for a community outreach afternoon, with fun activities for everyone, and food!
We are particularly interested in hearing from residents about what changes they would like for the grounds of the estate, and whether anyone would be interested in joining a conservation and gardening group on the estate
Did you know that Marianne North, the famous botanical artist and explorer grew up in Hastings at Hastings Lodge, now Sacred Heart Primary School. Her father, Frederick North was a Liberal MP on numerous occasions between 1831-1869. When he died, Marianne had a 12 seater bench made to commemorate her father which was installed at Northβs Seat in Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve β very close to Downs Farm.
We will be making prints with wildflowers, and identifying the flowers as a way of commemorating Marianne North, and Phil from the museum will bring fossils and dinosaur bones, some of which he found on the beach below Fairlight glen.
This is part of a GWS and Southern Housing outreach day, with refreshments and a range of activities
