Join our new Audubon Chapter President, Will Bennett, as we explore the Blackburn-Vannoy Farm in Ashe County, run by the Office of Research and Innovation at App State! This sustainable development farm is the location of several campus research projects, and the home of the HCAS MOTUS tower (part of an amazing Bird migration tracking system). The farm has a variety of great bird habitats.
We will meet just past the front gate at 8am on Friday the 27th, and the walk will take a little over 2 hours to check out all the different spots. After the walk, our very own Richard Gray will give us a tour of the MOTUS station! No registration is required for the walk but we will have a sign-in sheet for everyone; the Farm needs to track their visitation to report back to the university.
Directions: 608 Water Tank Rd, Fleetwood, NC 28626
To get to the farm, get onto the 221 going from Deep Gap toward Jefferson. Turn right on Water Tank road. You will see a house on the right selling eggs. You will turn right immediately after that onto a gravel road. There are a number of mailboxes at the bottom of that road. Proceed up the hill. You enter the farm at the crest of the hill. There will be some parking spaces to the left.
