Growing Up: Spiritual Maturity through the Six Perfections

What does it mean to be a bodhisattva, a ‘friend of the world’?

This Buddhist term refers to a person who has developed the most loving heart possible, known as ‘the supreme good heart of bodhichitta’ by training in the ‘six perfections’ of giving, moral discipline, patience, joyful effort, concentration, and wisdom. By growing into the six perfections we become the best version of ourselves and can be of benefit to everyone that we meet.

In this workshop we explore the six perfections, focusing on practical ways of weaving them into our home and work lives, our relationships and our other activities, such that everything we think, say and do becomes profoundly beneficial to others, and a cause of our own inner peace, healing and happiness.

"The six perfections are the practices of giving, moral discipline, patience, effort, concentration and wisdom, motivated by bodhichitta. We should recognize that the six perfections are our daily practice." - Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, "The New Heart of Wisdom"
