ᴍᴀʀɴᴘɪ ꜰᴇꜱᴛɪᴠᴀʟ is coming to Broken Hill!
We’re proud to announce ᴍᴀʀɴᴘɪ ꜰᴇꜱᴛɪᴠᴀʟ, a significant First Nations-led arts and community festival co-designed by ʙᴀᴅɢᴇʀ ʙᴀᴛᴇꜱ and Slag Heap Projects with ᴀɴᴛʜᴏɴʏ ʜᴀʏᴡᴀʀᴅ and ɴᴀɴᴄʏ ʙᴀᴛᴇꜱ, in partnership with The Old Vic Gallery Studio and Premier Automotive Tyres.
The festival brings art out into the street, inspired by the Marnpi Dreaming story which traces the flight of the wounded bronze-winged pigeon (marnpi) as it travelled from Flinders to Wilyakali, Barkandji and Malyangapa Country, and into Queensland, depositing distinctive rocks and minerals.
ᴍᴀʀɴᴘɪ ꜰᴇꜱᴛɪᴠᴀʟ presents two new exhibitions:
+ ʙᴀᴅɢᴇʀ ʙᴀᴛᴇꜱ with grandson ʙᴀᴀᴋᴀ ʙᴀᴛᴇꜱ at Slag Heap Projects
+ᴀɴᴛʜᴏɴʏ ʜᴀʏᴡᴀʀᴅ at The Old Vic Gallery Studio
And a special opening event with food, art, and music by Barkindji songwoman ɴᴀɴᴄʏ ʙᴀᴛᴇꜱ with special guests!
This festival is for everyone, a celebration of story and community.
This project is proudly supported by Regional Arts Australia and Regional Arts NSW through the Regional Arts Fund.
