Stop in and see the latest exhibit at Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art, "Lookout: Paintings by Davey Eldrigdge" features a survey of his landscapes examining the elemental structures and rhythm of nature and inspired by fleeting moments in time captured within those landscapes.
Originally from Potsdam, New York, Eldridge studied painting and printmaking at SUNY Potsdam. He eventually moved to Houston and taught art for many years. He has been painting since his youth, and between his teachers and his own affinity for nature, found inspiration in as varied media as post-war abstract art and quilting. His approach is unique, visually mining a blend of traditional watercolor and assemblage while employing hidden or underlying geometries within his subjects. The result is ornately detailed paintings that transcend his media, ranging from representational to abstract nature-based compositions; “Lookout” is the result of Eldridge acting as both a guide and a sentinel for transient places in time and by documenting the extraordinary within them, protecting them.
Five Points Museum of Contemporary Art is located at 1201 North Moody in Victoria, TX and is open to the public 12-5 pm Wednesday through Sunday.
Admission at the museum is always free.
