Come help revive and restore the old Goatville Community Garden site behind the Mechanic Dog Park at Blake Field this summer! We recently learned from neighbors that this was a community garden in the 70s.
We will create new paths in and around the dog park to improve access and sight lines to Blake Field from Mechanic Street. We have cleared most of the knotweed and invasive rose and ready to start planting!
We will add native trees and shrubbery with fruits and nuts to benefit local birds and wildlife (mostly really cute gophers and possum who already call this site home)
We are planting a Persimmon, several varieties of crab apple and perhaps more paw paw, serviceberry, elderberry, witch hazel, and spice bush. We will anchor the site with a few canopy trees (TBD) from URI.
