Blessed Hands // Bendichas Manos
Cooking Up a Show With My Turkish Jewish Granny
Find yourself transported to late Ottoman Turkey, to Spain of 1492, to an unnamed Middle Eastern city. Cook a delectable meal inspired by these places and others in the SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) region, all while asking, what is authentic in this food? What makes anything authentic? And Why!?
Join anthropologist and performer Dr. Michal Nahman for a unique cookery masterclass and theatrical performance blending song, dance, and comedy.
Leading us through a menu based on several years of interviews with her Sephardi Jewish family, as well as her many collaborators from Jewish, Muslim, Christian and British backgrounds researching food diasporas in the UK.
This debut show launches the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded production of Blessed Hands/Bendichas Manos. We’ll finish by sharing the meal we’ve cooked together.
Early bird ticket up until 30th June: £30. After this tickets will be £35. Spaces are limited and we anticipate this event will sell out, so early booking recommended.
