Lift up your voice and sing!

In the peaceful movement traditions of the children and women at Parihaka, and the gatherings of the Aboriginal Advancement League members at Auntie Sally Russell's place in Footscray before delivering a petition to Parliament, the Recollective invite you to gather together to hear stories and sing songs in this spirit of hope.

Why? Singing together will foster interconnection - weaving our voices, weaves us closer together; lifting our voices, lifts up our spirits. This event will engage us culturally in significant stories and songs, and nourish our resiliency.

What? Simple songs - no experience or skill needed. Our gathering will be facilitated by the talented voice composer and singer Samara Pitt who will guide us through learning some new - and old - pieces. Hosted by Talitha Fraser

Who? All welcome - bring the fam...

When? 3.00pm Sunday

Cost: Bring something for afternoon tea if you can

Just a heads up... This event is in no way intended to have any evangelical component. As a womanist collective working on decolonising theology that's not our style. However the songs we're looking at might include songs like the Aboriginal Lord's Prayer, In My Father's House, Bura Fera or similar (did you see The Sapphires movie? That song has an amazing history). This means there might be lyrics of some songs that include language that references Father/Lord/Jesus. Please take exquisite care of yourself in discerning whether to join us if that's not comfortable for you.
