Whipple Observatory's newly renovated public Science Center— located near the bottom of Mt. Hopkins— is open to the public on Fridays from 10am-3pm.
The Science Center features 27 new and renovated exhibits and panels, with many hands-on exhibits to learn about the science of the Universe and what we're studying at Whipple Observatory.
The Science Center is located at 670 Mt. Hopkins Road near the bottom of Mt. Hopkins at the *LOWER* observatory. There is NO PUBLIC ACCESS to the upper observatory on Mt. Hopkins at this time. Please *do not* go looking for the Science Center on the mountain; you will not find it. The public is allowed to travel on Mt. Hopkins road to the 12km mark, which is marked by a large gate; at that point you must turn around. No public traffic of any kind— hikers, cyclists, vehicles— are allowed past the gate. Unpermitted drones are *not permitted* at Whipple Observatory or in the Coronado National Forest and no drones are permitted near Whipple Observatory telescopes at any time.
