City of Battle Creek neighbors are invited to join others throughout Calhoun County for a county-wide household hazardous waste collection!
*This event is open to all neighbors living within Calhoun County.*
This collection will take place at the Calhoun County Fairgrounds - located at 720 Fair St., in Marshall, from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2025.

✔️ Accepted HHW Items:
Oil-based paint; fuels (in fuel cans); solvents, acids, and bases; pesticides; household cleaners; mercury; medications and sharps (inside rigid puncture-resistant container with lid); household batteries; fluorescent light bulbs; motor oil, oil filters, and antifreeze; propane cylinders and gas cylinders (NO foam insulation); fire extinguishers; aerosol cans; PCB and non-PCB lamp ballasts; oxidizers and self-heating solids; flammable solids and liquids; toxic inorganics and organics; lighters; chlorophenols; lead; self-defense spray; peroxides; water-reactives, isocyanates, and cyanide.
❌ NOT Accepted HHW Items:
Latex paint; school chemicals; biologically-active material; home-use insulation spraying cylinders; ammunitions; weapons; explosives; radioactive material (includes smoke detectors.)

❌ HHW collections DO NOT include garbage, tires, yard waste, construction/demolition waste, appliances, or industrial/business-generated waste. These items are not defined as household hazardous waste.
✔️ Helpful HHW Collection Tips:
- Please separate paint from the rest of your items and pack your items carefully, so they do not spill while in transport.
- Use of tarps, lining cardboard boxes with plastic, or using leak-proof containers for transporting your items is recommended.
- Please label all items that are not in their original packaging.
- You may be asked to park and wait if you want any gas cans returned.
