iNaturalist Nature Hike

June begins the State Parks Bio Blitz! Several state parks compete against each other to find the most amount of species in their park. Staff, volunteers, and visitors alike can all participate and help their parks track the diversity of plants, fungi, fish, mammals, insects, and so much more in the park. Best of all - these efforts not only help the park, but they help scientists! Each year, rare and unusual species are found or re-discovered in our parks.

We will be using the free app iNaturalist to document species. We do have rules for our contest - cultivated species and domestic animals don't count. Species must be photographed or sounds recorded. Merlin is a great app to combine with iNaturalist for identifying bird calls. All species are encouraged to be recorded - come on fishermen, show us your catches, big and small!

June 1st - 10am - Meet at the park office and walk the exercise trail!

June 14th - 10am - Meet at Pavilion 1 & 2 parking lot and walk the Creek trail.

June 27th - 4:30pm - Meet at the main boat launch to walk the Fisherman's Trail.

Other programs during the month of June will also highlight the Bio Blitz and the use of the iNaturalist app to document species. Check out our other "Events" for more, or see our photo album "Upcoming Events" for flyers for other upcoming activities in the park!
