Saturday, July 19, 2025
Doors 7:30 PM / Music 8 PM
GENERAL ADMISSION: $13; Accessible: $9
King In Yellow (Kingston, New York) mix Psychedelic rock n roll, Post-Punk, and Gothic Rock into a sound they call "Heavy Jangle," equal parts Groovy and Chaos
Known for their intense live performances and stark visual light shows, the band weaves bleak sonnets with Walls of feedback and Pounding drums as their medium. FFO: The Birthday Party, PIL, The Jesus Lizard
*****
This Grand Rapids 5-piece began as a one-man act, with Ryan Faber’s EP “Nothing I Can Burn” becoming the first release under the name Strange Skin, a name chosen to acknowledge themes of alienation and identity crisis. Beginning in 2019, Faber would reunite with his friend Gabe Gardner to write and record the group’s first LP, “Negative Self.” Released in 2021, the two later gathered a band to give the songs new life on local stages. The songs—performed with keyboardist Danira Stanojevic, bassist Jon Gillis, and sample-mangler Arie Nienhuis—became much heavier than their recorded versions: sampled drums are played live, pummeled on tired pads against scorching synth leads, caustic bass lines, and reverb-drenched guitar. Strange Skin continue to refine their intense blend of industrial, post-punk, shoegaze, and noise rock, as they write their next record as a proper band. FFO: Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Have A Nice Life
*****
Phasing is a solo shoegaze project from Grand Rapids, MI. Wielding an array of home-made electronics used to build layers of sound that volley from gentle and dreamy to vehemently thunderous. Song subjects explore the murkiness of bleak inner monologues often paired with a lens that implements themes of science fiction.
*****
Gray Rapidian: Grunge-flavored alt-rock from Lansing, Michigan. Major influences: Title Fight, DIIV, and Ovlov. Est. 2021.
