Join us at Galway City Library on Tuesday 24 June at 6:30pm for the launch of a new exhibition by artist Elaine Cunningham, titled "Wax Lyrical". All are welcome to attend.
Elaine Cunningham is a contemporary visual artist working across a range of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, spectacle, and community art. She has been painting for nearly 30 years and completed her BA in Contemporary Art Practices in 2020.
"Wax Lyrical" is a collection of encaustic artwork. Encaustic painting is an ancient technique and consists of melting natural Beeswax and Dammar resin (crystallised tree sap), to which pigment may be added. The dammar resin causes the beeswax to cure to a durable hard surface. Each layer of encaustic paint is fused to the previous by heating with a blowtorch.
