MOUNTSORREL CASTLE GUIDED WALK

Join archaeologist Mathew Morris for a guided walk around Mountsorrel Castle and find out about its notorious history and what still survives today.
The castle was relatively short-lived, existing for less than 150 years, and today all that remains of this once-mighty fortress are a few poorly understood earthworks on top of Castle Hill. Yet during its short life, it had a significant role in four military campaigns and was one of only two castles in Leicestershire to be besieged, earning itself the infamous nickname the ‘nest of the devil’.
The walk is approx. 1km long and involves some steep paved and unpaved paths, steps and uneven ground.
Tickets: Adults £5, children FREE. No booking necessary. Meet at the Butter Market, Market Place, Mountsorrel LE12 7BA
A #FestivalofArchaeology event.
