The Curro Durbanville Rapid Open has become one of Cape Town’s most anticipated annual chess events, attracting players from across the Western Cape and beyond. Now in its fourth edition, the 2025 tournament promises an even greater experienceβ€”bringing together a diverse mix of rising juniors, seasoned competitors, and chess enthusiasts in a competitive and family-friendly atmosphere.
Organized by the African Chess Lounge in partnership with Curro Durbanville High School, this one-day event offers a dynamic and well-structured rapid chess experience featuring seven rounds of Swiss-format chess, governed by the latest FIDE rules.
Whether you're a beginner taking your first steps in tournament play or a rated player chasing top honors, the Curro Rapid Open has a section for you:
πŸ₯‡ Championship Section – for elite players rated 1800+ (FIDE/Chess SA rated)
🧠 Advanced Section – for competitive players rated 1500+
🎯 Intermediate Section – for developing players rated above 1200
🌱 Beginner Section – for learners and newcomers rated below 1200
