The York Waits: - “As I went to Walsingham”

Last seen here at the Priory Church in2014 the York Waits return for an innovative program exploring the experience of a medieval pilgrimage. Taking their name from the ancient city band of York – in continuous existence from the 14th century until 1836 – just like their predecessors they play upon a “noyse” of shawms (ancestors of the oboe-bassoon family) characteristic instruments of waits before 1600. They also play cornett, saggbut, and curtal, flutes, recorders great and small, crumhorns, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdies, lute and cittern. A unique musical feast !
