John Innes: Career Retrospective

Join us for a fascinating talk with Winter Lecture Series speaker, the conservation legend, John Innes

John Innes retired from Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research in January this year after a 44-year career studying mammal pests (especially rodents) and their interactions with wildlife. He had career-long involvement with the kōkako recovery programme and was also on kaki, kakapo and takahe recovery groups. He has followed the development of various regimes of pest control and is particularly interested in ecosanctuaries of various kinds. This talk will describe factors that limit native bird populations; update the state of kōkako recovery; discuss major pest management regimes (island eradications, mainland aerial control, unfenced and fenced ecosanctuaries) and the Predator Free NZ vision.

The Winter Lecture Series events held in Pepper Tree Restaurant are FREE events, but a koha is always welcome to help our conservation work in our region.
