Hikes for Tykes: Wetland Creatures

My grandmother always told me, β€œDon’t go near the water.” She had no idea what she was missing. Wetlands are beautiful and vital parts of any healthy landscape. Pine Barrens water is harsh in many ways, therefore any organism calling its tea-colored bogs, wetlands, and creeks β€œhome” must be well adapted to the barrens. And they are. Turtles, snakes, frogs, fish, and insects tell us if the water is pristine by Pine Barrens standards. Despite being surrounded by suburbia, it still is! Water pure enough to drink right out of the ground. Which over a million people living in South Jersey do daily. Discover how aquatic insects tell scientists if water is clean enough to drink. Come, join retired teacher, FBRP Founder, and Ambassador, Mr. V and drink in the beauty, serenity, and wonder of Black Run Preserve as we explore its diverse life in its bogs and wetlands. Special guest presentation by our friends at Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge.
