Antechamber | Callan Skimin

Antechamber

An antechamber is a space which leads you somewhere. A place to pause.

My practice of collage is one chance encounters. Physically manipulating images until something is revealed, or more-so hinted at. Two images combined allude to a third: a poetic fiction, scenes of which we spectate.
The collages are created from collected found images, which I arrange and ‘rephotograph’ on a flatbed scanner. Their physical qualities are of as much interest to me as their pictorial.

Callan completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts through RMIT in 2018, and prior to that had studied film and video production. His work has been exhibited in spaces across Melbourne, and in screenings overseas. He lives in the Pyrenees, where he works in a home studio.

Exhibition opens Saturday 12 July and runs until Saturday 9 August.
