The 39 Steps

The 39 Steps is a fast-paced comedic play adapted by Patrick Barlow from the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film, which in turn was based on John Buchan’s 1915 novel. This stage version is both a thriller and a parody, filled with clever theatricality and rapid-fire costume changes. The story follows Richard Hannay, an ordinary man in 1930s London who becomes embroiled in a spy mystery after a woman claiming to be a secret agent is murdered in his apartment. On the run and wrongly accused, he must clear his name, unravel the mystery of "The 39 Steps," and prevent a national security disaster.
