Illuminating Britten’s THE TURN OF THE SCREW with Del Sol Quartet

Like Henry James’ novella, Benjamin Britten’s THE TURN OF THE SCREW gives an unsettling glimpse into the shadows beneath the facade of childhood innocence. Or does it?

The Del Sol Quartet offers a wide-ranging program of music by local and global composers, with themes of childhood in mind. Britten’s “Three Divertimenti” began as musical portraits of his school friends. Erika Oba’s “Akoya” draws from a Japanese folk tale shared with her niece and Mark Orton’s “Microsuite” explores intergenerational connection. Recent music by the Korean-born multi-instrumentalist Gamin Kang, Jungyoon Wie and Del Sol’s own Hyeyung Sol Yoon, along with the world premiere of “Kids and Dads” by Santa Fe composer Chris Jonas, rounds out this unique program.
