With special guest Anna Ransom.
The Burley Griffin return to Smith’s in full band form with their danceable and confessional Americana to launch Cornerstone, the final single from their album Lost Limbs.
“This album has been on a huge journey with us. The launch was one of the best gigs of my life, and was followed by bleak lockdowns. It was so disheartening. But since then, Lost Limbs has had plenty of love on local radio, been boogied to on many dancefloors, and even landed us on some of Canberra’s biggest stages supporting Australian icons Custard and Augie March. It feels surreal to be finally launching Cornerstone and its incredible video by Stackhat”. - Says Evan, frontman and songwriter.
Cornerstone is just that, the song which is the key foundation of Lost Limbs. It’s a meditation on lost faith and disillusionment. The video ties the song to the suburbs and cityscape of Buckley’s spiritual abandonment. Dawdling like a bored teen around brutalist architecture and the pastel, pristine lakeside, you could almost chuckle at Buckley, if not for the stark lyrical honesty. Director Stackhat has expertly captured how mundane, how lonely it is when the promised light fades, and no one seems to notice.
As well as a big screen premiere of the music video, one of the Australian alt-folk scene’s ‘ones to watch’, Anna Ransom will be opening proceedings with her lush and striking songs.
