Join us for a hands-on, two-day workshop on traditional Hawaiian cooking with Chris “Ikaika” Nakahashi. Learn how to plan, build, and cook in an imu (underground oven) and prepare many traditional Hawaiian foods including imu-style kūlolo, a classic Hawaiian dessert made from kalo, coconut milk, and sweeteners. Participants will gain practical skills in imu construction and use, explore the cultural and environmental benefits of this sustainable cooking method, and prepare kūlolo and other delicious dishes from scratch and cook them in the imu. Ikaika is from Haʻikū, Maui, and serves as Board President of Maui Nui Botanical Gardens and a lecturer in Hawaiian Ethnobotany at UH Maui College. With years of experience cooking in imu throughout the islands, he brings deep ʻike and a passion for sharing Hawaiian food traditions. Space is limited—reserve your spot today!
