Basic Navigation & Compass Skills – Auckland branch

This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to be able to navigate using a Topo-50 map and ground features on well-marked tracks in areas typically open to the general public. The compass will be introduced and used in conjunction with maps to learn about taking and following bearings. The practical field trip includes learning location awareness in a simple off-track environment and also develops and reinforces the map and compass skills learnt during the theory session.
Theory: Thursday evening 11 September, 19:00 to 21:30h, Pt. Chevalier, PLUS
Practical: Saturday 13 September, 10:00 to 15:00h, Wenderholm Regional Park.
Cost $70 per person.
Registrations close Wednesday 27 August or when the course is full.
Volunteer youth group leaders may request the discounted course fee during the registration process (please advise your organisation).
