"Galveston Survives" - A Historical Symphony Exploration and Panel Discussion

The late Izola Collins, Galveston educator and musician who wrote a published history of Juneteenth, composed the symphony “Galveston Survives” to commemorate the 1900 Storm and Galveston’s remarkable resilience over time.
Join us as we listen to a recording of the piece and discuss its profound meaning and continued relevance during a special program hosted by the Rosenberg Library’s Museum and the Galveston and Texas History Center. The program will include a panel discussion with Collins’ daughter, June Pulliam, and Trond Saeverud and Christina LeBlanc, leaders from the Galveston Symphony Orchestra. Collins directed the GSO as it performed the symphony in 2016, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
The program will begin at 6 PM Wednesday, July 9, in the Rosenberg Library’s Wortham Auditorium.
