What is a Rube Goldberg machine? A Rube Goldberg machine, named after American cartoonist Rube Goldberg, is a chain reaction–type machine or contraption intentionally designed to perform a simple task in a comically overcomplicated way. For example, your machine might take 15 different steps to ring a bell.
We'll use found objects, domino-type blocks, marbles, toilet paper tubes and much more to create our machines. We'll watch some short example videos and then get to work! Each family will have an opportunity to demonstrate their machine for the rest of the participants.
Feel free to bring your own materials to add to your machine. Best for families with kids ages 4 and up. Younger kids may not be a good fit for this program.
