Gel-plate Print & Stitch: 2-day workshop with Barbara Dawson

Printmaking is an almost magical process. This playful two-day workshop is suitable for both beginners and makers experienced in printing. You will explore the creative aspects of a simple printing process using a gelatine plate to print on paper and fabric. You will create prints using native leaf litter, found in the grounds surrounding the workshop venue. Basic principles of colour theory and design will be covered.
Your explorations start with printing on paper, using a simple design and colour palette to learn the possibilities of this form of printing. From here you will progress to applying your acquired skills to print onto fabric, then learn to use simple running stitch and seed stitch to embellish and enhance your printed design.
You will have the opportunity to make and take away two, generous-sized furoshiki, a traditional form of Japanese cloth used for wrapping gifts and objects.
With the focus of Day 2 being on stitching, this will be a mediative day, in which your creative ideas further find their form and expression.
