The 85ers are a sea shanty band formed from 6 active sea going lifeboat crew at RNLI Portishead. The station is based on the North Somerset coast of the Bristol Channel.
The group formed back in 2021 during the winter lockdown. One morning after a training session, they had an idea where the 6 of them would each record their own part of a sea shanty on their phones. Someone recorded the first part and shared it with the others. Each of them then recorded themselves singing along to that original version. A clever friend of theirs was tasked with merging these 6 recordings all together and the result was rather good!
