Scunthorpe United’s second encounter of pre-season will see the side make the short trip to Brumby Hall to face Appleby Frodingham on Tuesday, July 8th, 7pm kick-off.
Just days after Andy Butler’s side open pre-season with a Friday night encounter against Bottesford Town, the early stages of pre-season continue to be a local tour, with visits to Cleethorpes, Gainsborough and Crowle all on the agenda as the Iron look to build up match fitness once more.
Appleby Frodingham are preparing for their second consecutive campaign back in NCEL Division One following their promotion from the Lincolnshire League, and will be looking to build on their maiden season back at Step 6.
The two sides last met in a pre-season friendly back in 2023, although the Iron sent their academy side for the encounter at Brumby Hall. In what was a fairly even battle, it was the hosts who came out on top with a slender 1-0 win.
It has been mainly junior sides that have previously taken on the side, inclusive of a 6-0 win on Boxing Day in 2008, with Matt Godden scoring four of those on the day. You can, however, rewind to a first team fixture back in May 1985, which was Paul Morland’s testimonial.
