Marsh and Stream Explorers Field Day

NEW DATE: MOVED FROM JUNE 7 (due to weather)
Come out for a fun morning of training on catching and identifying macroinvertebrates at Jamies Pond in Farmingdale! Learn how you can contribute to an important community science effort that acts as a screening tool for Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) water quality assessments in streams and freshwater wetlands.
If you like to explore, wade through streams, and care about water quality, then this community science project is for you. Maine Audubon partners with the DEP on the Marsh and Stream Explorers program to recruit, train, and support volunteers interested in searching streams and freshwater wetlands for large aquatic insects (macroinvertebrates) that are indicators of water quality. At this training session, you’ll learn from DEP experts on how to survey for and identify macroinvertebrates and practice doing it yourself. This is a great activity for educators who can do the project with students, for families, or anyone looking to contribute to community science.
Be prepared to wade into shallow water as you net and handle freshwater critters. Register for this free workshop (at the link for "Tickets") and we'll send you all the details and location/meeting spot.
