Oulu All Star Big Band marks its 20th anniversary this year with a spectacular celebration at Elojazz, hosting a special anniversary club at the atmospheric RioLive.
The evening’s star soloist is the internationally acclaimed jazz and soul singer China Moses, whose charisma and soulful interpretations captivate audiences time and again. Moses has brought vocal jazz into a new era, setting her own unique standards. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Paris, she inherited her radiant stage presence from her mother, legendary singer Dee Dee Bridgewater.
China Moses released her first single at the age of 16 and has since paid tribute to the greats who inspired her – such as Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, and Etta James. Her deep R&B roots shine through in her emotionally rich delivery and the depth she brings to every note.
The concert will be conducted by Jukka Eskola, artistic director of the Oulu All Star Big Band and a leading figure in Finnish jazz. Eskola is known for his many ensembles and has been a key player in groups like The Five Corners Quintet and Ricky-Tick Big Band. With over 200 albums to his name, he is a recipient of prestigious awards such as the Yrjö Prize and Pori Jazz Artist of the Year.
