Regenerate! Singing Circle with Clay Gonzalez

Join Michigan-based composer and folksinger Clay Gonzalez for an hour of inclusive music-making. Clay’s workshops are inspired by the American shape note tradition— a kind of community singing dating back to the early 1800s. All voice types welcome, as are those who would prefer to just listen. No knowledge of reading sheet music is necessary.

J. Clay Gonzalez is a composer, director, and producer specializing in music that engages communities in collaborative sound-making. In 2025–26, Gonzalez will serve as a McKnight Visiting Composer, developing a residency focused on engaging communities in Minnesota’s North Shore. Gonzalez directs Regenerate!, an organization that produces community music events in Michigan, Maryland, and across the U.S.
