Shapeshifting senses, spirals, and ecosomatics: Craft talk on embodied poetics with Rachel Atakpa

Learn how land memory, epigenetics, and deep listening shift concepts of time, affect human bodies, and inform poetic making. Practice somatic grounding and connection techniques, then integrate your learnings with an evening stroll. This program will start inside Matfield Community Church and will conclude outside with an easy walk. Participants may want to consider bringing: bug spray, sunscreen, water, paper & writing utensil.

rachel j. atakpa is and changes. atakpa was raised in a rural railroad town, works contiguous rivers, and loves the land. a liver in afterlives, seer between seas, and poet for possibility, rae reads, w/rites, and sows. atakpa’s writing appears at Poetry Society of America, fifth wheel press, Contemporary Verse 2, Berkeley Poetry Review, and elsewhere. atakpa’s multimedia installation art-works have been exhibited at Charlotte Street Foundation, KCAI Artspace, and the Lawrence Arts Center. rae’s practice is of the web: iridescent, ecosomatic, spacecraft.
