ROOTS & RHYTHM
With FRAME DRUMMING, VOCAL WEAVING ,SONGS and a magical SAUNA in the woods (option)
Join us for this summer nature immersion rooted in rhythm, the land, the voice, and remembering.
What does that mean, exactly?
We’ll explore the powerful and ancient art of FRAME DRUMMING an instrument rich in history and tradition. Yes, instruments like the Bodhrán and Shamanic Drum are both types of frame drums, and you’re more than welcome to bring one .
However, in this session, we’ll be focusing on a particular style of playing—using our fingers and palms rather than beaters or mallets. This intricate and expressive technique is commonly found in musical traditions from Turkey, Greece, North Africa, and the Middle East.
We will also look at vocal weaving while we drum,….. yes..at the same time….!!!
How? Through the Body.
With gentle and loving awareness we will stretch,move and connect with how we choose to move our unique bodies , first without drums and then introducing Upright style frame drumming playing where we can allow ourselves to MOVE, DRUM & SING …at the same time.
The more embodied we are with landing into the rhythm, the more opportunity there is for our voices to respond and reveal our ‘body songs’
Don’t worry, nobody will be put on the spot, unless that would be something you would love of course.
We will mostly sing together, lots of call and response, some short harmony songs I’ve collected , all of which will invite us to listen, express, and remember the joy of singing in connection with ourselves and each other.
Where?
At this very special land of Cnoc an mBan “ the hill of women “, we will be held in the heart of nature, surrounded by beautiful land and trees all inviting us to naturally slow down and tune in.With the fullness of Summer energy around us….. The trees, birdsong, fresh air, and open space all playing a part in supporting and grounding us into a sense of connection.
With the ROOTS of nature beneath our feet….gently holding and inspiring our morning ,as we reconnect with rhythm, voice, and the deep remembering that lives inside us all.

About your facilitator, Sinéad O’Brien.
With over 25 years of experience facilitating African hand drumming, group singing, and the rich musicality of polyrhythmic drum circles, Sinéad now finds herself drawn to new discoveries through the Frame Drum, a beautiful and ancient instrument that she’s been sharing with groups this year.
Known for her playful nature and deep commitment to presence and listening, Sinéad approaches each circle as a unique constellation shaped by the people who show up and the energy created together that unfolds through rhythm ,voices and connection.
