Free Summer Concert Series #4: Featuring Susan Pepper

Susan is a ballad singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, has been performing concerts and teaching workshops for over two decades. Oxford American notes her “celestial upper range.” Influenced by a host of musical mentors from Western North Carolina including Sheila Kay Adams, Rick Ward, Hazel Rhymer and many others, Susan has built a rich repertoire. For Susan, these songs are more than music—they’re a way to honor past generations, connect with people and places throughout time, and celebrate Appalachia traditions. She also illuminates the storied banjo tradition with her renditions of old and new songs on a variety of banjo types.

Susan has been working as an instructor with Junior Appalachian Musician Programs in Western North Carolina since 2007. She also teaches singing and music workshops at venues such as the John C. Campbell Folk School and the Swannanoa Gathering as well as private lessons. She has released three music albums. She is a co-producer and singer in the independent film The Mountain Minor.

Her favorite place to sing is while walking in the woods. She and her family call Jackson County, NC home. Website www.susanpepper.com
