Summer Staycation: Colors of Nature

Looking for adventure this summer vacation? Look no further than your own community - its Summer Staycation at KNS! Every week, families will dive deep into a new topic lead by a local expert from our region. From live animals to live theater, and making chocolate to making furniture - each program allows families to explore and engage with new skills and new ideas together!
This week at Summer Staycation, join us for a day of color experimentation with children’s book illustrator, art curator, and natural ink maker Gabrielle Eisma! After an introduction to the world of color by KNS staff, learn how Gabrielle forages for plants, soil, and roots so she can make her rainbow of natural paints. Then, get messy! Experiment with making your own paints from plants, and use simple chemistry to change their color, before painting your own masterpieces. All participants will make and take home a detailed color chart from the process, your own painted masterpieces, a packet on how to start your own natural inks at home, and one bottle of ink from the class to keep experimenting!
This program is intended for preK-4th grade students and their families. Museum admission is not required for this program. Pre-registration is recommended to ensure a spot but not required. This program will occur fully on site at Kids N Stuff Children's Museum. This program will include painting with natural inks, which may stain clothing. Disposable smocks will be provided - but we recommend wearing old clothing, just in case!
$6 / person
