A Bit of History:
The Festival of the Holy Ghost is a centuries-old Catholic tradition brought to life by Queen Isabel of Portugal, born in 1271. Known for her compassion and care for the poor, she inspired generations through her generosity β and miracles.
Legend tells of Queen Isabel hiding bread in her apron to give to the poor. When confronted by King Diniz, the bread miraculously turned into roses.
To honor her legacy, we crown a Holy Ghost Queen each year during Mass and process through the streets with her court.
