Illuminated Sculptures: Encaustic, Textiles, and LED Lighting with Shary Bartlett

In this immersive two-day workshop, you’ll explore the captivating fusion of encaustic wax, textiles, and LED lighting to create three-dimensional illuminated sculptures and lamps.
Encaustic wax and textiles, with their rich texture, colour, and depth, take on a new dimension when paired with light, transforming luminous layers into art that intrigues and captivates.
Working with the gauzy delicacy of silk and the lacy filigreed fibres of Lutradur spunbonded fabric, you’ll discover how to sculpt these textiles into limitless translucent forms. Learn to hand-dye, shape, and distress fabrics, then coat them with encaustic wax to create malleable, light-infused structures. LED lamps will be integrated to bring your creations to life and light, offering endless possibilities for design and expression.
By the end of the course, you’ll complete 2-3 illuminated pieces to take home and contribute to a collaborative light exhibition for the Canadian Encaustic Conference. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this course will inspire you to push the illuminating, three-dimensional boundaries of what’s possible with encaustic, fabric and LED lighting.
Cost: $500 - Preregistration Required.
