Photographer David LaBella will discuss his latest book, “Into A Wilderness of the Soul: A New World of Earth and Mind”, a study of the ideas and experiences that drove the European exploration and colonization of the Americas forward, how those ideas changed over time, and how colonialism changed the New World forever. The presentation will end with an extensive viewing of headstone art from Connecticut's oldest burial grounds- the carvers, the symbolism they used, and the vivid and varied imagery they used to commemorate their peers in their communities. Special attention is paid to sites from eastern Connecticut, where the greatest diversity of styles is on display. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing at the event. No registration required for this free program for adults.
