The Talisman Poetry & Spoken Word Open Mic with featured poet Jamie Woods

Join us for the June instalment of Talisman! Whether you've read before or not, want to read or just absorb the atmosphere of Swansea's longest-running poetry night, a warm welcome is guaranteed.

This month's featured poet is Jamie Woods.

Jamie Woods (he/him) is a writer from Swansea, recently selected as “a poet to watch” by Poetry Wales in 2025. He has had poetry published in a number of anthologies, magazines and journals, including in Poetry Wales, Lucent Dreaming, and Ink Sweat and Tears; short fiction in Evergreen Review and The Lonely Crowd; and his poem ‘Ring the Bell’ was commended in the Hippocrates International Prize for Poetry and Medicine 2021.

A former blood cancer patient, he is now Poet-in-Residence at the charity Leukaemia Care UK, and performed his poetry at the British Haematology Society Annual Meeting in 2024. His debut pamphlet Rebel Blood Cells was published by Punk Dust Poetry in Jun 2023, and was named as one of the best Welsh poetry collections of the year by Wales Arts Review His second pamphlet, Black Skies Die Starless, is being published by Punk Dust this summer.
