What is the Te Ākautangi Matariki Festival?
The Te Ākautangi Matariki Festival is an event jointly run by Tai Tonga 41 Outrigger Canoe Club and Evans Bay Yacht & Motor Boat Club. It includes the Ngā Mata o Te Ariki, Tāwhirimātea Marathon (Waka Ama Race); Matariki Classic (Endurance Yacht Race); and Matariki Yachting Regatta. The festival acknowledges importance of Matariki to Te Ao Maori.
The Te Ākautangi Matariki Festival is not just an on
water event however. For 2025 we are also going bigger and better with kaikōrero (Speaker) sessions at EBYMBC in the month leading up to the on water activities. These sessions are open to everyone and we would love you to bring along your friends, family and neighbours. The bar will be open.

- Saturday 7 June: History of Te Whanganui-a-Tara
- Saturday 14 June: Waiata & Quiz
