Captain Hyser Civil War Display

The Hyser Rivers Museum is the home of Dr. William Hyser, who became Captain William Hyser of the famed Michigan 6th Cavalry Brigade in the Civil War. He led Companies F and D in some of the fiercest fighting met by mounted Union horsemen against Confederate troops, and in fact, had at least two horses shot from under him.

The Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society plans to honor his remarkable service in a special display that will open in 2025. We are looking for any items of his that you may have acquired or access to -- old letters and journal entries especially! Contact us at PlainfieldHistory.com

Led by the daring commander Brigadier General George Custer, Captain Hyser survived the war to return to Plainfield Township and resume his medical practice. Learn about this Civil War hero -- and contribute if you can.
