Fireworks at The Highlands, Triadelphia, WV

While we understand how much our community looks forward to the annual fireworks at The Highlands, the Ohio County Commission has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s July 5th display. This choice was not made lightly.

With the recent challenges our region has faced—including flooding and ongoing recovery efforts—we feel a deep responsibility to prioritize the use of county funds toward helping our residents and supporting essential services. Right now, our focus must be on rebuilding, restoring, and making sure our neighbors have what they need most.

We know how meaningful traditions like this are, and we share in the disappointment. Please know this decision reflects our commitment to the long-term well-being of our community. We’re already exploring creative ways to celebrate together in the future—ways that reflect both our resilience and our unity.
