Summer Meeting: "The Iris"

Join us Friday, July 25 at 6pm at the Northfield Township Community Center for our summer meeting. The program will feature speaker Jacqueline (Stauch) Stickney. Ms. Stickney a 1965 graduate of Whitmore Lake High will speak about the "Iris", a 12 meter sailboat one of two largest on the Great Lakes, owned by Dr. Russell Smith of Whitmore Lake. In 1962 the boat carrying 26 people total, 18 of them sea scouts from the Whitmore Lake area ran into high winds and 7 foot waves causing the yacht to loose its main sail and suffer damage to the hull. The passengers were rescued by the freighter, "Joseph S. Young". Join us for this interesting story. A few people that were on board that day are expected to be in attendance.
