Join presenters Max Kroft and Talia O'Shea on August 30, 2025, at 8:00 PM at Kohler Andrae State Park for Universe in the Park. Enjoy a 30–40 minute astronomy talk at sunset, followed by telescope viewing (weather permitting). Great for ages 8+ (talk) and 4+ (viewing).

Presenter Max Kroft is a graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in the UW-Madison Astronomy Department. His research primarily involves observational studies of exoplanets, planets outside of our solar system. He currently works on detecting and characterizing the orbits of new exoplanets discovered with the TESS mission. He also is involved with studies of binary star systems out of the plane of our galaxy. In the future, he would like to work on more detailed characterizations of exoplanets, such as studying their atmospheres using spectroscopic data from JWST.

Presenter Talia O’Shea is a graduate student at UW-Madison using simulations to model AGN jets emerging from supermassive black holes. She is interested in how these jets affect their host galaxies, producing radio mode feedback and inhibiting star formation. Before coming to UW-Madison, she studied Astrophysics and History at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she researched galaxy clusters with the IllustrisTNG simulation.
