Reconstructing the life and death of England’s last medieval king.

There is an enduring fascination with King Richard III, England's last medieval king and the notorious villain of William Shakespeare's titular play.

Richard III was the last king of the House of Plantagenet, the last English king to die in battle, and his death in 1485 heralded the beginning of a new post-medieval ruling dynasty, the Tudors.

The rediscovery of his mortal remains beneath a car park in Leicester in 2012 became a world-wide sensation, blending modern detective work with dark historic deeds to give a global audience a tangible connection with our past.

Join archaeologist Mathew Morris from University of Leicester Archaeological Services, one of the lead archaeologists in the search for Richard III, and find out how modern forensic science has provided new insights into Richard III's life and his death.
