Intro to Sashiko: Japanese Embroidery
Thursday 24th July, 7-9pm, £35PP
Come join us for an evening of exploring the traditional Japanese art of decorative stitch, creating beautifully intricate patterns on fabrics. We will begin by learning the fundamentals of Sashiko, including the history, techniques and cultural significance of this ancient craft. We'll create samples throughout the session, looking at pattern and how Sashiko is used for mending.
It will be a relaxing evening playing with a range of different techniques. There will be refreshments available and it will be an intimate group so your tutor Jess will be able to give everyone individual attention. No experience necessary - all levels are welcome! The event will take place at SILT, Unit 6 St Georges Works, Silver Street, Trowbridge, UK.
All materials will be supplied in the session, but if you'd like to bring along a pair of holey jeans/ clothes to practice your Sashiko on, this is very welcome!
No experience necessary, limited spots available, so sign up now.
Led by Textiles artist Jess Way who uses these processes in her art practice.
