The Serpentine Community Gallery is proud to present Real Fantasy, a captivating joint exhibition by father and daughter artists, Gerhard and Maya Veit. This unique show offers a deeply personal and visually stunning reflection on life and beauty in the Northern Rivers.
Real Fantasy invites audiences to explore two interwoven creative journeys shaped by a shared life on Bundjalung Country. Gerhard Veit, originally from Bavaria, has lived and worked in Upper Main Arm since 1971. His work pulses with sacred intricacy—a golden labyrinth of line and spirit. Drawing on tantric motifs and visionary reverie, his layered compositions blur the boundary between self and symbol, creating meditative pieces that celebrate nature, memory, and community.
Maya Veit, raised in a home where art was not just practiced but lived, brings her own luminous perspective to the exhibition. Her exquisite hyperreal oil paintings dazzle with technical brilliance while exploring themes of impermanence, care, and belonging. Her work is shaped by her experiences as a paediatric nurse and her profound connection to the land.
Together, Maya and Gerhard offer an intimate dialogue across generations—a celebration of creativity as inheritance, of place as muse, and of art as a way of life.

Enjoy live music by special guests Croaker and the Honeybee, along with nibbles, drinks, and of course, cheese.
Real Fantasy will be on exhibition until 5 July 2025.
