Theme: East vs West
Whisky distilling is a relatively new art, at least compared with beer and wine production, which began many millennia in the past. Nevertheless, the Irish and Scottish have been at it for some time (the oldest distillery in the world is Irish, beginning operation over 400 years ago). Many newcomers have emerged since, not least the Japanese and more recently the Taiwanese. This tasting pits the newcomers against the old-timers! It features whiskies across styles ranging from single malts to single grains and aged up to 30 years before bottling. Featured distilleries include Tomintoul, Redbreast, Suntory, Nikka, Fuji and Kavalan as well as independent bottlers Compass Box and Claxton’s. The tasting will be double blind: not only will those attending not know until afterwards which whisky is which, neither will Dennis Hart, who has chosen and will present them. Let the competition between East and West begin!
