The Victoria Cross is this country's highest award for bravery and Mark Smith will explore its instigation, dispel some of the myths surrounding it and tell some of the stories of those men who have been awarded it, with a particular focus on Arthur Louis Aaron and Tommy Gould, two Jewish servicemen awarded the Victoria Cross during World War II. Mark Smith is the well-known Medals and Militaria expert on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, having also appeared on many other TV and radio programmes. He owns an extensive private collection of British medals and is a well-known expert on the Victoria Cross. He is a Member of the Western Front Association and the Orders and Medals Research Society, and has written five books on The Great War. His autobiography, published by Penguin Books Random House, is available in August 2025.
